Some thoughts on Nutrition and how you may view food.

Image
"Man does not live by bread alone..." - Matthew 4:4   This may the battle cry of those who insist on dieting. However, without proper planning and a good nutritional guide, a diet is bound to fail and bring down one’s health in the process. Definitely, we should not live to eat, but neither should we live to be a model dress size. There is more to life than how you look and what you eat. When the Bible talks about eating, it is more for the nourishment of the body; and studying is nourishment for the mind. It emphasized both equally, and we should take heed. Dieting is not a bad activity to undertake until we start taking it to the extreme. If that happens, then we’re playing around with our health, and possibly our lives and the people who love us. This may sound trite right now, but regrets usually come too late. Are you willing to take that chance?   How often do we try to fool ourselves by saying we’ll just take small meals, but sneak in junk food in ...

PORTION DISTORTION 😲

Image
Did you know that an order of the small McDonald’s French Fries used to be the large order 20 years ago?     Over the years, our portion sizes have increased so much that we are eating 2 or 3 servings at one sitting.     Is it any wonder we are gaining weight? For most of us, we know what we are supposed to eat, that is not the problem.      The problem is we are eating TOO MUCH and we need to learn to control our portion, which is the solution.     Even if you only eat the right foods, if you eat too much, you’ll gain weight! Let’s see how much you know about the calories in these portions.     Answer the next five questions and then check your answers at the end… 1. A bagel 20 years ago was 3 inches in diameter and had 140 calories. How many calories do you think are in today's bagel? a. 150 calories b. 250 calories c. 350 calories 2. Some thing to think about!

Hello Fitness family, One question I often get asked is... Clarence, How many days a week should I workout? I wish I had a dollar for every time someone asked me that question. Let me first answer your question with a question. (Something I learned from my clever daughter Angelina who wins every argument) How many days a week do you take a shower? Let me ask you another question..... How many days a week do you brush your teeth? I'm really hoping you answered every day. Now that you admit to brushing your teeth and taking a shower every day, let me ask you another question. Just a couple of hundred years ago, did our ancestors brush their teeth and take a shower every day? Highly unlikely? As a matter of fact... NOPE We didn't have running water till the 1930s. And as far as the toothbrush is concerned... The toothbrush was developed in the 15th century. So over the years, we've have trained ourselves to AUTOMATICALLY take care of our hygiene. It's a NON NEGOTIABLE....

Five Cholesterol Myths and What to Eat Instead (repost)

Image
You knew there was a bit of an over-emphasis (borderlining obsession) about cholesterol, right? Before we jump into some myths let's make sure we're on the same page when it comes to what exactly cholesterol is. Myth #1: “Cholesterol” is cholesterol While cholesterol is an actual molecule that it is bound to while it's floating through your blood is what's more important than just how much of it there is overall.   In fact, depending on what it's combined with can have opposite effects on your arteries and heart.   Yes, the opposite! So cholesterol is just one component of a compound that floats around your blood.   These compounds contain cholesterol as well as fats and special proteins called “lipoproteins”.   They're grouped into two main categories: ●      HDL: High-Density Lipoprotein (AKA “good” cholesterol) that “cleans up” some of those infamous “arterial plaques” and transports cholesterol back to the l...

Sh*t happens But Why does Sh*t always happen to you?

Thank you Terri O! for pointing this out to me. The fact of life is that “bad luck” doesn’t exist. We CREATE it. If you feel like life never goes your way, then you’d better take a step back and do a little soul-searching. Are you making these classic mistakes? Bad Habit #1: The Pity Party The main problem people with  “bad luck”  have is that they’re always trying to invite others to the  pity party . “My day was so horrible,” they’ll say. Then they’ll run through the laundry list of things that went wrong that day – from burning a slice of toast to getting a flat tire. And you know what?  Things will continue to go horribly wrong as long as you’re in that loser mindset. Bad Habit #2: Time Management People who are late all the time are rarely happy . They cause so much undue stress it’s unbelievable!  The people who are last in the bread line don’t eat when the food runs out.  Those who fail to get up before noon miss out on countless busin...
